By default, the sender of a Professional Services Agreement (PSA) is the Provider - the party delivering the services. If you're the one hiring someone to provide services, set Your Role to Customer and send the PSA yourself. You no longer need to export it to Word and swap the parties by hand.
NOTE: Your Role is your organization's side of the agreement. It has nothing to do with your Admin or Standard user role in Common Paper.
Choosing your role
Your Role appears under the Parties heading at the top of the PSA form, with two options:
Provider (you provide the services) - the default
Customer (you hire the Provider)
The other party always takes the opposite role. A PSA always has exactly one Provider and one Customer.
You can set your role in three places:
On a PSA template. Every agreement you create from that template starts with the template's role.
On a new or draft PSA. The draft starts with the template's role, and you can change it before you send.
When you propose changes to a PSA you sent. You can switch roles until either party signs.
What changes when you're the Customer
The PSA Standard Terms refer to the parties only as "Provider" and "Customer", so the terms themselves don't change. What changes is which organization carries which label. On the agreement page, the PDF and the Word (.DOCX) download, your organization is labeled the Customer and the recipient is labeled the Provider.
In the Word download, your organization's details stay in the sender's usual position on the page, so the parties can appear in a different order than in the PDF. The labels are correct in both.
Cover page fields written from one side's point of view follow the roles. For example, when you're the Customer, Customer Obligations and Customer Policies describe your own obligations and policies.
What the recipient sees
When you send a PSA as the Customer, the recipient sees a banner at the top of the agreement:
You are the Provider on this agreement. The sender is the Customer and is hiring you to provide the services.
The recipient can't change the roles, including when they propose changes. If they believe the roles are wrong, they need to ask you to change them.
Limits
Your Role is only available on the Professional Services Agreement. No other standard agreement type has it. To be the Customer on another agreement type, ask the other party to send the agreement to you.
The only roles are Provider and Customer. You can't rename them (for example, to Consultant and Company).
Once either party signs, the roles are fixed. Signed PSAs you already have are not affected.
