Gerri can build a playbook for you by analyzing contracts you already use. Upload your standard template, a set of signed agreements, or both, and Gerri writes a full set of rules based on the positions those documents show you take.
This is the fastest way to get a working playbook without writing rules one at a time. To create and manage playbooks by hand, see Managing Playbooks.
What you can upload
You can provide two kinds of documents, and either one works on its own.
Contract template - your standard form for this agreement type. This gives Gerri the cleanest baseline for your preferred positions, because it shows what you ask for before any negotiation.
Signed agreements - fully executed agreements of the same type. These show what you have actually agreed to after negotiation, which is how Gerri detects your fallback positions. Upload at least 3 for useful results, and up to 20. More examples produce more accurate fallbacks.
Gerri accepts .PDF and .DOCX files.
What each combination produces
A template and signed agreements produce the most complete playbook. Gerri uses the template to establish your baseline on every topic, then uses the signed agreements to work out where you have given ground and where your position has held firm. Rules include your standard position, the variants you have accepted, and the limits you have refused to cross.
A template alone produces a starting position playbook. Every rule records what your template asks for. Gerri does not add accepted variants or counterproposals, because there is no negotiation history to draw from.
Signed agreements alone produce a partial playbook. Gerri infers your standard position from the language that repeats across deals, and covers only the topics where those deals reveal something worth capturing. Topics your agreements handle identically every time are left out, so a playbook built this way will have gaps. Add a template to fill them in.
Generating a playbook
You can start a generation from the Playbook page in two places: the New playbook dropdown, or the generation card in your playbook list. Onboarding also links to it.
Open the generation form from the Playbook page.
Enter a name in the Playbook name field.
Optionally, add Special instructions. This is where you tell Gerri how to evaluate clauses that the documents alone will not reveal - your risk tolerance, deviations you want ignored, or positions that are non-negotiable.
Under Contract template, click Select file or drag your template into the upload area.
Under Signed agreements, click Select files or drag your executed agreements into the upload area.
Click Generate playbook.
While Gerri works
A confirmation banner appears at the top of the Playbook page, and your new playbook shows up in the list with an Analyzing... status and a count of the documents being processed.
Generation usually takes a few minutes. You can leave the page and keep working - Gerri emails you when the playbook is ready, and a banner appears on the Playbook page with a Review playbook button. The playbook card is marked New and shows how many rules Gerri wrote.
What Gerri generates
Gerri writes a description for the playbook noting the agreement type it identified and what it based the rules on - for example, "Autogenerated Cloud Service Agreement playbook based on template only." Rules are named after the legal topic they cover and listed alphabetically.
Internal notes
Each generated rule includes Internal notes recording the evidence behind it: how many of your agreements supported the position, whether your template held or was negotiated away, and why Gerri set a counterproposal where it did. Notes also flag thin evidence, so a rule drawn from a single agreement says so.
Internal notes are for your reference. You can edit or clear them, and they do not affect how Gerri evaluates agreements.
Reviewer
Every generated rule is assigned to your organization's default reviewer. You can reassign individual rules the same way you would on any other rule.
Reviewing and editing the playbook
The playbook is ready to use as soon as generation finishes. Nothing needs to be activated, and generating a playbook does not change which playbook is your default.
Even so, read through the rules before you rely on it. Gerri writes rules from what your documents show, not from what you intend to do going forward, so a position you have since moved away from can still show up. Every rule is fully editable - open it and click Modify rule to change the positions, or Delete rule to remove it. You can add new rules the same way you would in any playbook.
For guidance on wording positions well, see Writing Rules for Gerri.
Viewing the original version
The Settings panel on a generated playbook records the date it was created and links to the original version. That link opens a read-only snapshot of the playbook exactly as Gerri generated it, along with the reasoning behind each rule. It stays available after you start editing, so you can always see what changed.
