Updating Playbook Rules from a Review

How to update your playbook rules on the spot when Gerri flags an issue or evaluates a redline during a review.

When Gerri flags something during a review, you can update your playbook on the spot to handle similar situations automatically in the future. This saves you from manually editing rules after every review and helps your playbook get smarter over time.

Where "Update your rules" appears

The Update your rules button appears in two places during a review:

  • On a flag in a clean agreement review - when Gerri surfaces a potential issue with a clause, you'll see Update your rules below your decision options.

  • On a redline in a redlines review - after Gerri evaluates a change the other party made, you'll see Update your rules below the decision history.

Both entry points lead to the same Drafting assistance experience, but the options available differ slightly depending on the context.

Quick options

Clicking Update your rules opens a small menu. The options shown depend on where you are in the review.

From a flag (clean agreement review):

  • Don't flag this in the future - tells Gerri to update the rule so this specific situation no longer triggers a flag.

  • Custom change - opens a chat where you can describe exactly what you want to change.

From a redline:

  • Accept changes like this - tells Gerri to update the rule to automatically accept this type of change in future agreements.

  • Reject changes like this - tells Gerri to update the rule to automatically reject this type of change.

  • Custom change - opens a chat where you can describe exactly what you want to change.

Selecting any of the quick options (Don't flag this in the future, Accept changes like this, or Reject changes like this) opens the Drafting assistance panel pre-loaded with the relevant flag or redline, plus a directive based on what you picked. Gerri will immediately generate a draft of the updated rule text for you to review.

Custom change

Selecting Custom change also opens the Drafting assistance panel, but without a pre-set directive. Gerri will show you the current rule - including its topic, description, and positions - and ask what you'd like to change. From there, you can chat with Gerri to describe the modification in plain language.

You can go back and forth in the chat as many times as you need until the rule text reflects exactly what you want.

NOTE: If no existing rule covers the redline Gerri is evaluating, the custom change flow can also be used to create a brand new rule from scratch. This is only available from a redlines review, not from a flag on a clean agreement.

Accepting the draft and saving

Once Gerri produces rule text you're happy with, click Accept this text. This takes you to the rule editor, where the Positions field will be pre-filled with the drafted text.

On the rule editor, you can:

  • Edit the Positions text directly before saving

  • Update the Name or topic or Description fields if needed

  • Click Save changes to apply the update, or Cancel to discard it

Writing rules directly in the editor

If you're already in the rule editor and want help drafting or refining the Positions text, click the Help me write this rule link below the field. This opens the same Drafting assistance chat, where you can describe your positions in plain language and let Gerri turn them into structured rule text.
