This integration brings your Common Paper agreement updates right into a public Slack channel to help your organization get agreements signed faster.

Connecting your Slack Account

In order to connect your Slack instance to Common Paper, navigate to the Integrations section on the left navigation. Click the Connect Slack button.

This will bring up an authorization window from Slack that grants access to your account. If you have multiple Slack instances connected, you can choose which one you want to use in the upper right corner of the screen.

We require permissions to list the channels in your instance, and be able to post to public and private channels.

Once you've granted us permission, the integration is setup! You'll be returned to Common Paper and taken to the Settings page where you'll be able to finish the configuration.

Configuring the Slack Integration

The Slack settings page allows you to:

  • Pick which notifications you would like sent to Slack. By default, all notifications are sent. Some notifications, particularly Viewed by recipient and Agreement downloaded can be more noisy than others, so some customers opt to not receive them to reduce the volume of notifications sent.

NOTE: Changing these settings has no effect on email notifications.

  • Pick which Slack channel where the notifications should appear. All public channels will be listed, and any private channels in which @Common Paper has been invited. There's a search bar within the dropdown to make it easier to find a channel.

NOTE: To have a private channel show up in the list, you first must invite @Common Paper to the private channel.

You can return to the Settings page at any time by navigating the Integrations page and clicking Settings under the Slack integration.

Viewing Notifications in Slack

Once the integration has been configured, you'll begin to see Common Paper notifications appear in the configured Slack channel.

Here's an example:

Each notification includes a link to the Agreement History page for the associated agreement. Any Slack user can click on the link, but only users with a Common Paper account will be able to see the agreement information.

Some notifications include action buttons - these appear when an agreement is currently awaiting action for someone on your team. Again, only Common Paper users will be able to see and act on the agreements via the button.

Disconnecting your Slack Account

If you need to disconnect the integration, it can only be done from within Slack itself. We've provided a shortcut to the relevant page in your HubSpot account - just navigate to Integrations in Common Paper and then click the visit your account link.

Once at the Installed Apps page, find the Common Paper integration and click on it. From the summary page that appears, click on App Details.

From there click on the Configuration tab, scroll to the bottom and choose Remove App. Follow the instructions and the integration will be removed. You can reconnect at any time using the process at the top of this article.

The present integration doesn't write any information to Slack (or Common Paper), so it's safe to connect and disconnect the integration without fear of losing any data.
