Whether it's your first time onboarding with Common Paper, or you've just created a template for a new agreement type, it's likely that you'll want to run through the experience of receiving, negotiating and signing a Common Paper agreement from your recipient's perspective.

The best way to achieve this is using the Send Test Agreement feature.

What is a Test Agreement?

A test agreement functions exactly the same as a regular agreement, with a few key differences:

  • Test agreements DO NOT count against any billing limits

  • Test agreements can be signed, but the signature is NOT legally binding. A warning message will appear when signing to underscore this point.

Otherwise, all Common Paper features will work with a test agreement including reassignment, negotiation and signatures. It is exactly what the recipient will experience when sending a legitimate agreement.

Sending a Test Agreement

After creating a new template, you'll be automatically asked if you wish to send the new template as a test agreement. Clicking 'Send a test' will automatically configure the agreement to be sent as a test.

If you'd like to send a test after you've already used your template, simply Create a New Agreement, either from the home page or from a specific template. Choose a personal email account or a co-worker as a recipient, and fill out the agreement with whatever terms you would like. Towards the bottom of the agreement form, expand See all send options and check off Mark this agreement as a test.

You'll receive a confirmation at the top of the screen that test mode has been turned on.

Once configured, send the agreement when ready.

After Sending

Test agreements will show in the agreements list alongside normal agreements, but will be marked as tests. The status of these agreements will update as they progress through the negotiation and signing process.

Removing Test Agreements

To remove an in-flight test agreements, visit the Agreement History page for the agreement and choose the Void Agreement option. After the test agreement is signed, it can be deleted from the same screen.
