Subsidiaries

How to add, manage, and send agreements from subsidiary entities affiliated with your organization.

Written by Mark Frantz

Subsidiaries let you send agreements on behalf of other entities or organizations affiliated with your company - for example, a DBA, an acquired brand, or a related legal entity. Once you've added a subsidiary, you can choose it as the sender for individual agreements or set it as the default sender for a template.

NOTE: Subsidiaries is only available on the Growth plan.

The Subsidiaries page

Navigate to Settings > Subsidiaries to see every entity you've added. Each row shows the entity's name and its address, with Edit and Remove links. Your default subsidiary is labeled (Default).

Only admins and owners can add, edit, or remove subsidiaries.

Click Add subsidiary to create a new one.

Adding or editing a subsidiary

The Subsidiary Details form is the same whether you're adding a new subsidiary or editing an existing one.

  • Legal name - the entity's full legal name.

  • Nickname (optional) - a short internal label to help you tell subsidiaries apart.

  • Legal Notice Email Address - required. This is the address used for legal notices tied to the entity.

  • Country, Street address, Locality, Administrative region, and Postal code - the entity's headquarters address, or the address you use on legal documents. This address appears as the notice address wherever the subsidiary is used as a sender.

At the bottom of the form, you can mark the entity as your default subsidiary. Click make default? to set it. Once you're done, click Save changes.

Setting a default subsidiary

Marking a subsidiary as the default pre-selects it as the Sender whenever you create a new agreement or set up a template. You can still change the sender for any individual agreement or template - the default just saves you a step.

Choosing a sender for agreements and templates

Whenever you send an agreement or set up a template, you'll see a Sender panel with an Organization dropdown listing your subsidiaries. The subsidiary you choose appears in the agreement's signature block, and its notice address is shown below the dropdown.

Templates can also have their own default subsidiary, set on the Set up a template for your team page. This saves the sender for every agreement created from that template, but you can still override it on any individual agreement when you send it.

The subsidiary you choose appears throughout the agreement, including in the title - for example, "Mutual Non-Disclosure Agreement Between Vandelay Industries d/b/a test and Tester Org."

Removing a subsidiary

Click Remove next to a subsidiary to delete it. You can't remove a subsidiary that's attached to a template - unassign it as that template's sender first, then remove it.
