Summary topics tell Gerri what to look for when it analyzes a counterparty agreement. For each topic you configure, Gerri produces a plain-language summary and answers any specific questions you've listed - giving you a quick read on how the agreement handles your most important terms.

Gerri comes with a default set of summary topics tailored for sales agreements - covering key areas like Liability, Indemnification, Confidentiality, and Governing Law. You can use this list as a starting point and customize it at any time to fit your organization's needs.

How Summary Topics Work

When Gerri processes a clean agreement - a file without tracked changes - it generates a Summary of positions section at the top of the review. Each topic you've configured appears as its own entry in that section, with a short narrative summary and answers to any specific questions you included when setting up the topic.

NOTE: Summary topics currently only apply to clean agreement reviews. They are not generated for redline reviews.

Navigating to Summary Topics

To view and manage your summary topics, go to Playbook in the left navigation and click Edit your summary topics under the For counterparty agreements section. This opens the Topics to summarize list, showing all topics currently configured for your organization.

Adding a Topic

  1. From the Topics to summarize list, click Add topic.

  2. Enter a name in the Name or topic field. This label becomes the heading for that topic in the Summary of positions section of the review.

  3. Optionally add specific questions in the Any specific questions to answer? field. Gerri will answer each question as part of its summary.

  4. Click Save changes.

If you're not sure what questions to ask, click Help me decide what to focus on. Gerri will automatically suggest relevant questions based on the topic name. You can use the suggestions as-is or edit them to fit your needs.

Editing a Topic

Click any topic in the list to open the editor. You can update the name or modify the questions at any time. Click Save changes when you're done.

To replace your questions with AI-generated suggestions, click Help me decide what to focus on. Gerri will populate the field based on the topic name, which you can then adjust as needed.

Reordering Topics

The order of your topics determines the order they appear in the Summary of positions section. To reorder a topic, click and drag the handle on the left side of the row to move it into position.

Deleting a Topic

To delete a topic, click it to open the editor and select Delete. You'll be asked to confirm before the topic is removed. Deleting a topic removes it from all future reviews - it won't affect reviews that have already been generated.
